This unique study is examining the impact of affordable housing and accessible community services on the health of LGBTQI+ seniors. We have partnered with OpenHouse and Sage USA to study the impact of 307 affordable housing units for LGBTQI+ older adults. All applicants are interviewed to provide a detailed health history, with study participants being followed from a lottery or waitlist to be able to compare how receiving housing impacts health. We have launched our study at three housing sites in San Francisco, Brooklyn, and the Bronx.
This model of studying a supportive environment for LGBTQI+ seniors is more than just housing and services. It’s about creating an inclusive community that has a measurable impact on the lives of LGBTQI+ seniors. Our hope is that by examining this data on health outcomes, we can begin to influence a wave of positive change at a legislative level that ensures more affordable and inclusive housing for LGBTQI+ seniors
